Gamlean group Marsudi Raras started playing at the Museum of Ethnography Nusantara in Delft, the Netherlands in 1981, directed by Niels Walen. In 2002 Paul van der Put took over the musical direction. From January 2006 Suhardi Djojoprasetyo is the musical leader of the group. Legally the association was started on 11 September 1987 in Rotterdam.
The name Marsudi Raras is Javanese and has a meaning close to `the subdued search for harmony'. The group studies playing authentic Central Javanese gamelan music in the style of the court of Surakarta (Solo). We have about 15 members and rehearse almost every Saturday in the Museum of Ethnography Nusantara in Delft, the Netherlands from 11:30 to 14:00. The rehearsals are on the more than 100 year old gamelan Kyahi Paridjata. We perform regularly both in the museum and elsewhere and give workshops for adults and children. For events outside of the museum the group has its own slendro gamelan Kyahi Hamongkarsa.
On this web site we have collected some of our recordings, both audio and video, a selection of the scores, and samples and photos of the gamelan Kyahi Paridjata.
